This metaphor of physicality is a certain view of the Web, which shapes how we think of it. The words we use for aspects of the Web reflect this:
- Information architecture
- Web site
- Visits
- Fetching a resource — a physical metaphor
- The location bar
- Presence — people co-present in a space
- Crumb trails
These are words appropriate to a system which uses physical things which are carried around geographic spaces—architectural spaces.
