This metaphor of physicality is a certain view of the Web, which shapes how we think of it. The words we use for aspects of the Web reflect this:

  • Information architecture
  • Web site
  • Visits
  • Fetching a resource — a physical metaphor
  • The location bar
  • Presence — people co-present in a space
  • Crumb trails

These are words appropriate to a system which uses physical things which are carried around geographic spaces—architectural spaces.
