Movement
Right, so there are a whole load of different interaction media to move between:
- Web/mobile Web
- Instant messaging
- Hybrid Web+desktop apps
- Mobile text messaging
- Desktop/Web-deployed widgets
- Syndication interactions
- Physical world URLs
- Smart objects
We know that people are going to be moving across all these media. The technology stuff, as far as I’m concerned, is not a problem which is solved, but technologies like APIs and events over Jabber (or XMPP) are a really, really good start. And the ability to mix all of these, technologically again, you know, it’s getting there.
My question is, what are the interaction design approaches we need to make that easy? I mean, I have no idea. There are approaches to certain media—like there’s a document called The Jack Principles which is part of the canon for doing Conversational User Interfaces. And I don’t know if anybody here uses i want sandy .com; that’s a really good stab at these problems.
But taking the Web off-road, and what the interaction design we need for that is. That’s the first issue.
