I like predictions of the future.

This is from 1979, and it’s a living room of the future, their future.

There’s a flat screen TV which is used to order shopping. There’s a video disc player that can record TV. And the mail slot here — listen to what it says in the caption:

“By 1990, most mail will be sent in electronic form. Posting a letter will consist of placing it in front of a copier in your home or at the post office. The electronic read-out will be flashed up to a satellite”

It’s like… the prediction was so good but just not quite there. Like, they got the networked computers, and the screens, and even the electronic mail. But they couldn’t quite get past the idea of writing your mail with a pen.
