If this were true, that good products were made through enriching the moments of engagement with them, why do my list of favourite things – and Maria’s – not list items in the shops? Why am I not listing products by HP, Nike, Apple… and Yahoo?

I think it’s because, historically, selling products that perform a task has been easier. It’s easy, in marketing terms, to show people that they perform a task, and here’s a product that helps you do that task. The washing machine to do the dishes, the typewriter to do the writing.
