Bad nun.

She’s on to something, an observation worthy of any good designer.

Maria has included in her favourite things, things that aren’t enjoyable because they taste good, or enjoyed because they’re related to conspicuous consumption, like new shoes or a big house, or even – in the case of brown paper packages – things which make sense on their own.

She has included things which indicate whole acts.

Getting a parcel—that anticipation before you open it and it becomes yours! She didn’t say, to give a counterexample, that she liked getting gifts.

She has included enhancements to objects that only make sense if you assume a context too.

Raindrops on roses. It’s been raining, the air is fresh, you’re leaning close to examine the flower and you can smell them.

Warm woolen mittens. It’s cold! You’re in the mountains. Your fingers are toasty and you notice because the rest of you isn’t.
