Stewart Brand is a visionary. This is the same Stewart Brand who in 1968 started his print publication, the Whole Earth Catalog, which is kind of a printed out Internet, full of tools and useful concepts for all the people who lived in the tens of thousands of communes that were starting up around the United States at the time.
As the Whole Earth Catalog continues, it eventually becomes the Whole Earth Quarterly, which is edited by Kevin Kelly, who becomes the founding executive editor of Wired magazine, intrinsic to the dotcom boom.
All this stuff is connected, right back to the very roots of our modern society.
And money from the Whole Earth Catalog? That was distributed at a party, but some went missing and emerged a bit later and helped fund the the Homebrew Computer Club in 1975, which had as some of its members Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs, who you may have heard of as the founders of Apple Computer.
