How about this, babies getting married.

A baby on a scooter. With a remote control. I mean, what is this? this is a car crash. If anything proves we’re living in Bruce Sterling’s world of ten thousand virtual reality evolved products with no human intervention, this is it.

This will sell a million.

I mean the fascinating thing about all of this is that’s it’s terrible. The global sales in the toy market is $72 billion. At the Tokyo toy fair recently – there are four toy fairs over the world annually where new toys are released – there were 36 thousand new toys released… but from only 130 companies. What this tells me is that this is an industry dominated by economics.

And just as the web has provided an alternative to Big Media, where media was dominated by huge incumbents, it’s possible that we could also, with the same lessons, disrupt Big Product. It could be that’s exactly what we’re about to do.
